Many times while out and about, different ideas of how to connect our local Alumni community and the existing cross paths. After a quick stop to check out the sale rack at Garden City’s Anthropologie, I thought about approaching the store to host an alumni event.
Some of you may know Anthropologie is part of the UBRN Outfitters company, along with Free People, Terrain and BHLDN. They are also a huge employer of alumni and offer internship opportunities to our talented students. Knowing this, and that the store is fairly new to RIers, I approached their team. Not only was I welcomed with excitement but they are truly dedicated to educating the community and very easy to work with.
Our event was to promote social and professional networking. It was a great success! We have lots of new young faces as well as eager alumni talking to the recruiter, Nikki Gerber and Sr. Designer, Amanda Grogan (99 TX). Their team put together a short presentation about the career path at Anthropologie and some helpful advice and a brief history. We received lots of positive feedback from the attending alumni of how this type of event was educational and fun. Check out our pictures below.
There was a raffle for a gift card, as well as giveaways at the door. We had over 80 alumni in attendance. Ten percent of proceeds from the night went to a RISD Scholarship. These events are super special due to the outpouring of local and Alumni donations. Our chapter would like to thank Sugarush Cupcakes (Erica Saladino 00 GD), Ladyfingers Letterpress (Morgan Calderini 07 PR), Yacht Soda, Edible Arrangements, Whole Foods and Melinda Rainsberger (04 FAV). Without their help and donations our event would not be possible. The RI Chapter looks forward to more events and networking connections!
